A Different Kind of Lawyer: Honest, Compassionate Family & Criminal Defense Attorney in Suffolk County

When I see commercials for law firms on TV, I hear phrases like “win,” “fight,” “don’t back down,” and even “total destruction.” It is a commercial after all.  My take on the attorney/client relationship is the following:

Of course, a client wants to hire a highly knowledgeable and experienced attorney who understands the law, the court system, and the people involved. But that’s only the beginning.   A client is only served well if that attorney listens carefully to that client, has compassion, and gives that client an honest assessment of his or her case straight up. No bull.  Often, clients have unrealistic expectations about what an attorney can and cannot do, and what a judge can and cannot do. It is the job of the attorney to temper unrealistic expectations at the very beginning of that relationship. Many attorneys don’t do this. I do.

I would rather a client not hire me because I was honest and realistic with them, than take that client on and not be able to deliver as promised. That becomes a significant headache for both the attorney and the client.  With that out of the way, the attorney’s knowledge and experience are very important. So is that attorney’s reputation within the legal community.

I graduated from Fordham Law School in Manhattan in 1989 and went straight to the Suffolk District Attorney’s office as an Assistant DA. While there, I served in the Domestic Violence Unit, conducted numerous trials, including jury trials, and honed my litigator skills. I also served as a Law Guardian for 5 years early in my career.  I practice exclusively in divorce, Family Court, and criminal defense in Suffolk County, NY. If you hire me, I will be the one handling your case. You get what you pay for.

Another important thing to know about me is that I am very family-oriented. I have 3 grown children and 2 beautiful grandchildren. I understand the importance of family. I also wrote a book on divorce and family law titled Divorce: A Practical Guide, available on Amazon.com, or you can get a free copy when you come in to see me in Smithtown for a consultation. We can also meet at the courthouse in Central Islip or talk by phone if that is more convenient for you.

I invite you to visit my website to learn more about me and read what my clients say. Thank you.
